OK, so I was thinking of creating a sort of tournament style game. These ideas might be hard for me to put into words but i'll do my best.

ok i want to create a few maps that will play off of one another...... well first off, I would create maps of individual battles of the Punic Wars or the 100 Years War. Then we would have 1v1 games between 2 players fighting against each other on every map created. I or someone else would record the winner of each battle/map. The players will then have a final battle with all or the territories that they have conquered from each map.

I feel like this is very confusing.........

ok here's a more in depth paragraph for those who are interested........

Take the 100 years war for example. I will create different maps for all or most of the battles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hundred_Years%27_War_battles . The maps would look just like the landscape that those battles did (trees, rivers, etc.). The French would have their armies and likewise the English. They would have approximately the same ratios of troops that they had in real life. The winner of each battle (each map created) will be declared by whoever is left standing. The winner of every battle will be recorded. After every battle/map has been played a final battle will take place. The final battle will encompass a large map of the entire 100 years war (Southern England & Northern/West France). Instead of countries, each player will (at the start of the match) receive territories according to their victories in the original battles/maps. The match wil begin just as any other game. The victor will be the last one standing.

I hope that this makes more sense.

If anyone is interested in a series of maps like this let me know....I might post a picture on this thread in a while showing what one of the small battles would look like.

Tell me what you think!

Great idea. Important to have well done maps (same style all the maps) and the final map would then be editted as a scenario giving the two players the territories they have conquered in the previous maps. Could also be a great Idea for a prolonged CW.

1 Big Map that is used for all the 56 battles (see following list), but each battle in a single scenario so that each battle is played in one separate game. In the end, after having played the 56 battles (games/scenarios), there is one big game (2v2, 3v3 or 4v4), where each side recieves the territories that they have concquered during the previous 56 games.
In other words, 56 battles define the scenario for the final game. For competition (potentially CW-based), each one of the played scenarios should give points and, of course the last one the major points.

Excelent idea. I'm in!
Cheers,

OK i just took a look back at this post. I think that Columna has some really great ideas for this. I seriously think that this idea can bring custom maps and cw's to a new level.....as cheesy as that sounds lol.

¿How do we start? I really enjoy making maps. Of course this would take a while to make.

The final battle will encompass a large map of the entire 100 years war (Southern England & Northern/West France).

I already made this map with the Hundred Year's War in mind:

If you want to you can use and modify it for your needs.

This is really great!

If this idea does become reality I can definitely see this being used.

I think that we should create a group of some sort where each person is responsible for some aspect of this "Project"

So just PM me or something if anybody is interested. I like to think into the future so i can see creating a group with a name and everything. Kind of like a coalition for maps. I don't know if this all sounds a little too crazy right now but please guys, let me know what you think of this stuff.

Hola,
there are 2 issues at stake:
(1) the idea of "Prolonged CWs" that are build around a series of games/scenarios that construct the "final game/scenario" and
(2) the idea of 100 years war.

In the first case we could think of using the Mega Series / MegaWorld; in the second case I don´t know if there is a map, besides the one mentioned above. But definetly interested in having any collaboration. It is a mega-project and I'm sure that any constructive support is mostly welcome.

Cheers y saludos,

OK, so i took the liberty of creating the first map(battle-battle of Cadzand) for the 100 Years War. This is the sort of thing that i am talking about. I realize that it is made of paint but i really don't have any better ideas for it. I guess you could get an image of the real landscape where the battle took place but i feel like that could get complicated with some of the battles that were on flat lands with streams and such. I thought that the only way these streams, rivers, mountains, etc. could be created was on paint. I really don't know where you can find something like this.....i guess you could find some images on the web somewhere but either way i feel like each map (battlefield) can only be created my hand. This map contains houses, churches, and castles. There is much more to be added but i figured i would post this just to show you guys what kind of this i mean. I really want and would rather play on more "real" looking maps but i don't know if it can be done. I will attempt to work on a more realistic map of the same area. So look at this map i have made (keep in mind that it was kind of thrown together) and let me know what you think. Personally this kind of map, although cool looks very mediocre so i feel like i will lean more towards the more realistic map. So post comments and hopefully i will have the realistic map done soon.

For the past 35 minutes i have been trying to find a good picture to make a realistic map on. I can't find anything!!!!!!! Everything is very bad quality, the ones that are good quality look horrible when zoomed in on as well. I did find one possible source for map images but the site that offers them charges a ridiculous amount of money for their subscription, it's something like $250 a month, absolutely crazy. But sadly i feel like the map above is the extent that these maps (series) is going to achieve. I encourage you guys to look for realistic map images that could be a possibility. I did go to Google Earth but all of the images were "modernized", meaning that all of the images had modern buildings and other developments on them. I also tried Google Earth's historical view option but the clarity of them were awful. By the way the image above got a little distorted when i uploaded it on here so it would look significantly clearer if it was actually used as an in game map.

So.... I really want your guy's input on this topic/issue so please let me know what you are thinking.

By the way the map image above is based on Zeeland, which is in the Southwester-nest part of the Netherlands and where the battle of Cadzand took place.

Nobody will find any better maps, they simply don't on the internet. You could go to your next library, antique or military shop and ask there- or you don't mind the modern structeres on google earth and still use it.
I mean, is it so bad really?

Yeah, i guess you have a point there. The modern maps really aren't that bad. I think that i will stick with them instead of the crappy paint map i made lol. I'll post a pic of the map once i have it finished.
