I've noticed recently that Detroit, Chicago and Toronto don't have port status in Atwar (on the default map). Can we make them ports, as they really are?

I know that they're on what are technically termed lakes, but Baku is on the Caspian sea, which is also a lake, and it's a port. Is there any particular reason for this or is it unintentional.

I also noticed that. I personally think they should be lakes, but idk if it is intentional of unintentional.

Probably because if they are port how you would exit from those lakes? You buy destroyers or some naval unit and then you can just move them trough lakes.

Equally, it is impossible to exit from the Caspian sea, but the cities around it are ports.

And yes it would be useful, e.g. to bring units quickly from Quebec/Ottawa to Chicago, where they could be used in the Midwest.

Remember Chicago grew up as the USA's third biggest city because it was quicker transporting things into the heart of America using the Great Lakes, than by moving them overland.

Yeah, this should really be changed. If the devs are worried about them not being too useful, we can also just make the Saint Lawrence River wide enough on the map to send naval units through. I think this would really make NA more fun to play. Ontario can take Great Lakes on first turn, Great Lakes has a lot more expand options.. hell, Quebec could take Washington.

It might be an unneeded buff to Great Lakes, but it makes expansion more diverse and buffs Naval Commander, so I like it. Would be even cooler if we had Mississippi; it only touches 4 cities, but it + great lakes would make NA WAY more interesting.

I'm moving this to ideas and suggestions, as it seems more suitable for the way this thread is going.

Would be good to reach Otawa from Chicago with naval transport, instead of expensive and time consuming air transport

It is a simple thing, simple things go far in this game. We've wanted this changed for 5 years now. We've been waiting FIVE years for an admin to do something. It's simple, make Chicago and Toronto into ports.

For those who think this isn't useful, you can easily traverse these lakes using shortcuts like you do in Denmark in 3v3s
And they look more useful than the Caspian lake ports
