I was working on my soon to be custom map (once the update comes out) but was hit with the roadblock that, hey, I can't magically come up with detailed physical maps like Afterwind has.

So, has anyone found a good way to make an imitation of a physical map without countless hours of photoshop work? Especially since I don't even have photoshop, just PDN

It would be really useful to know where ivan and amok got their images for the world, and if a clean world map was given, that would be awesome too.

Well if you don't have photoshop, things will be much harder.

You need aerial view footage + photoshop for realistic results

I actually PM'd them about it, asking them to use the map found here. Well I'll be damned, but that is the map the game actually uses!

It's in the public domain which means you do whatever the hell you want with it. Enjoy!

Thats easy, just cut pieces of NASA images of earth and place they in your map.

Doesn't work when you're trying to create a map of a nonexistant region...

The last time I tried Gimp I absolutely hated it. Didn't seem to work very well for me.

Unless you feel like meshing a bunch of areas that look, at best, rather different than the original piece of work in a way that will probably blur and ruin the effect more, it doesn't really tend to work so well.

I've been doing what I can off of a similar method, and in the end I don't expect it to be too bad. But I was more of just searching for something that looked a bit more realistic.
