It's been 6 years since I started playing atWar, and I'm still unable to build units in my cities turn 1 on Casual games.

Is there an actual reason for this, or has it just been overlooked for all that time?

It's the same for quick games - you join and can't build right that turn.

But your concern could be implemented for Casual games, yes.

A long time ago this was explained to me by Amok... i'll give you what i recall... it seems like an easy problem to fix, but when you follow the computer logic of how quick games go, you can see the problem....

Casual games were programmed after quick games, which assumed all players choose their countries before the host starts the game... if you play a casual game and start it like a quick game, (ie. everyone picks their countries in under 30 seconds, and then host starts the game...) you do indeed get your 1st turn reinforcements.

The fix turned out to be not so simple... seems simple, but it wasn't. A whole new 'starting mechanism' would have to be programmed for casual, and i don't think it ever made the priority list for Amok given the work-around of just having the host not create units first turn. In other words, this particular bug requires a lot of programming changes, and that same time could fix 10 or more other bugs that don't have work-arounds.

And so here we are... waiting for Super Dave as he plows through the code.

Thanks for the explanation. And I understand, seemingly simple things are always more complex.
