I think the community as a whole had suffered a lot from threads being deleted.

Lets see some opinions.

Just flag any off topic posts, if 2/3 mods agree then remove the post. Threads especially ones with numerous responses should not be deleted though, regardless of personal thoughts by moderators if numerous people have posted then it is important. Hdrakon an Desu posts are spot on.

Nice avatar, upvoted.

No solution that requires admins to change something will be archived in a long time, because they are busy in other stuff. The best we can do atm is to let mods discuss about it, and maybe approve Tact's suggestion (to move threads to modforum instead of delete them).

Additionally they could create a thread to log actions such as deletion, for example.

Of course, if the team as a whole agrees to something, we don't expect an individual mod to disrespect that decision and delete threads again...

As Clovis stated, you could merge that with the recycle bin/mod forum idea temporarily till mods decide on it.

Majority of forums have a flagging system. Like the upvote sytsem I imagine it wouldn't be too laborious to implement. You can still spam = you have off topic

Why remove the comments? If someone is really shit posting a lot then just ban them from the forum or let the community deal with them. I'd honestly prefer that to having mods just deleting things willy nilly. How can we judge that a comment merited getting deleted if we never see it?

a) Because they have nothing to do with the topic and that's called derailing it.
You should have known that by now .

b) "Let the community deal with them."

You mean replies that have to do with the irrelevant post turning the topic into an even bigger mess than it already 'is'?

c) You can by seeing a screenshot of it.

Edit: Also, I won't bother to reply here anymore, as discussing the matter isn't the point of this topic. If you like, we could continue, but instead in PM.

Except I'm confident they did have something to do with the topic otherwise people wouldn't have posted them, but I suppose we can never know that now can we? Just because I don't agree with your action doesn't mean I should be talked down to .There's nothing in the job description for mod that says you need to idiot proof the forums.

b) "Let the community deal with them."

No, I mean let the community criticize those who shitpost. This is what has happened to Andertes as well as Waffel and Clovis in the past. People's posts are judged for their quality.

c) You can by seeing a screenshot of it.

Are you implying you take and save a screenshot of every comment you delete? More importantly how is this matter not the point of the topic? Look at the title the topic is literally about mod action (you are a mod) and data deletion (you deleted data). This conversation could not be anymore on topic. And the rest of the community could very well benefit from observing and taking part in this discussion so no I will not be sending you a PM.

Oh right. You must have never dealt with people derailing a topic then. Ask Meester and he will show you numerous examples where it requires a lock, for when people post totally irrelevant, out-of-place comments, the most common type of 'irrelevant' being the revival of very old topics.

By saying that you seem to implying that every single bad quality post was judged by the replies that followed to it.. And that is totally wrong.
Players often start to engage in whatever off topic message it was someone had posted, by replying to it with the same kind of off-topic.

Oh sorry, I had a few topics open in different tabs and must have mixed the names. No I don't take a screenshot of every single thing I delete, but most of the time I do take screenshots prior to deleting something. I'm not as obsessed as some people are to take screenshots of absolutely everything.

I was never arguing that topics should never be locked or that spam is valuable. My problem is that too often I see what seems to be mods deleting threads and comments under the pretense of "it's off topic", when in reality they just don't like the content of the discussion or have personal issues with players posting. I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way. That kind of unchecked censorship actually damages the quality of the forum because we only see what a select group of players want us to see.

You yourself, in this topic said: "Except I'm confident they did have something to do with the topic otherwise people wouldn't have posted them"

Sorry, but people post things not related to topics all the time, which is why the topics either get locked or the irrelevant comments removed.

From what source are you getting it that things locked/ deleted are disliked by the mod doing it? Where are you getting your supposed facts?
The only place where a mod wouldn't like something so bad as to delete it, is when it concerns the mod/ his friend, personally. Posting content of the kind not only constitutes a rule break but also arises an emotional reaction, such as in the recent case where a player's info was leaked. The emotional reaction comes from the thought we all have, which is "What would I do if that were to happen to me?"

Also, I don't suppose you'd just lock a topic which leaks info, for example. You'd delete it. Now you're going to say "Edit it". It can be edited by the author at any time to bring the details back from stars *** to text.

Acquiesce is kind of right though, mods are easily deleting/moving threads/comments for personal reasons, if you as mod don't think you cant distinguish personal things and your duty as mod, then you should question yourself if being a moderator really fits you.

As I stated before, I have had my personal situations with you, but I still dont have a problem with you being a moderator, you just have to stop disrespectfully interrupt threads where clearly people want to discuss (since this is general discussion) and just delete comments or close the thread. Because that leads to off-topic comments aswell.
As said by acq, the reason was off-topic, when it was about AW and clearly not off-topic.

As I said million times, there should be guideliness for moderators, and those should be published, but amok and Ivan are working their asses off ( I hope) to fix this game so I would understand that thoes guidelines arent their first priorities. So in the sake of Ivan and Amok, stop starting worldwar 3 with the community here and try to control your triggerfinger and you'll see that the threads arent as bad as you think they are.

And I dont know if you have read my thread I made a couple of days ago, I will quote you in it just to make sure, but I think that reflects a bit how people think of the recent occassions with the mods.

Lol a comment that leaked sensitive information should certainly be deleted. Luckily for us that's a rare occurance because this is a video game forum, not FBI headquarters.

If you want an example look no further than your own behavior with Goblin. Deleting a comment that makes fun of deleting comments in a thread about deleting comments! I can only assume it's because you disagree with the content of his post.

As for sources or "supposed facts", I was a mod for years (twice as long as you've been playing this game), I saw this all the time. The first example that comes to mind is when a ~100 post thread criticizing Shadow Aces was deleted because it had "gone off topic".

I really don't enjoy seeing a double negative in a sentence.

Oh yeah, good times, good times:
  • Openly admitting you were breaking 'several rules at that moment' was so pleasant to read;
  • Claiming I had put you on ignore list when it fact it was you;
  • Avoiding your punishments several times and so on.

How do I disrespectfully interrupt topics? Give me an example, at least one.

It's funny still how you ignored my request for an example of where "I derail topics" Keep going like that, yeah..

If you actually went to school and actually learnt to read, which I think you didn't, you could've got your anwser already.
