So most cases of colorblindness result from a genetic disease; however, you can develop it if you're exposed to toxins. I have the genetic mutation from my mother who is a carrier. It is a sex linked recessive trait passed on the x chromosome. My grandmother has the disease so all of her daughters are carriers as my grandfather is not colorblind and her one son is colorblind. My mom being a carrier game me a 25% chance of being a male born with colorblindness. Being passed on the x-chromosome and being recessive makes it more difficult for women to get the disease, but nit impossible, as their father must be colorblind and their mother must at least carry the gene. Currently, 8% of males are colorblind and .5% of females are colorblind.

The problem exists in the eye itself. The eye can see colors between a specific range of wavelength ranging from 400-700 (I forget the units). Your eye has three rods that are made specifically to see one part of this range; one detects colors between 400 and 500, another 500-600, and the third 600-700. Colorblindness is then a result of one or more of these rods being damaged as a result of the genetic abnormality or being missing. Not all forms of colorblindness are the same. Some result in total loss of the ability to see colors while others are so mild they don't even know.

I myself can still see color; however, the colors I see tend to be wrong. For instance, I see grass as orange like a carrot or the cap of a gatorade bottle. I also just found out last year that peanut butter is not green so I'm still learning my colors XD. I do, however, see some colors normally such as the sky which is still blue and most of my clothes and what not.

Lol thanks for reading it all the way through. And sometimes it gets tiring when people ask me what color things are 20 times in a row XD I do get pisse dthough when I get asked hat color something is and I get it right and then they say "Oh, you're not colorblind then." DX

I mean I've never had sever issues with it. I've learned to cope with it. What I have yet to master is matching clothes so I typically wear simple clothes that are hard to mismatch. But when I go clothes shopping, my two brothers are also colorblind, Pheonixking929 who is my twin so we have the same genes and then an older brother who happened to get the gene as well, but since we're all colorblind we always have to ask random people what color the shirt we're looking at is or other pieces of clothes hahaha

Also I forgot to answer about the glasses/ surgery thing in your previous post. Currently, there is no surgery or method that cures colorblindness. There are glasses by enchroma that have worked for some people; unfortunately after taking a test they provided online, they said the glasses would most likely have minimal effect on me. These glasses work on some cases, but not all. They're not covered by insurance since they're considered experimental so if I do really want to try them out I'd have to cover the out of pocket expense which I don't feel like doing

And I'm not sure if severe would necessarily be too extreme to say considering I can still see color, but most of the colors I see are wrong anyway

As for the price they would be between 600 and 700 bucks which for me as teenage worker would be 2-3 paychecks (So 4-6 weeks of work) depending on the hours I get (I would need 82 hours when tax is calculated). And my parents are already paying for college so I'm not going to have them put any money out for this even if I intended on buying them XD
