We'd like to know from the community what they think the most pressing issues on AW are. For example, the ELO System as well as Brian's recent CW Regulation post between all of the actively participating competitive clans are pretty pressing and important issues.

We would like to use what feedback we receive from the community as a general guideline for future projects.

I can't remember whether or not this was addressed before but I think adding an AI to the game would be so beneficial to the player base. This way you don't need to wait for players to join the game or if they leave an AI can take over. I'm an independent game developer (in progress) and I'd be happy to help with the logic behind creating the AI. It's hard to imagine that the current devs haven't thought of it before which is why I keep thinking there was a reply to this suggestion before. Regardless I'd still love to help. I really like AtWar and used to play it a lot. So I wouldn't mind helping the devs think of a way to implement the AI.

We have one, it's called 12axis.

I didn't know AtWar had an AI. Where can I find it? Or play against it?

Yeah, occasionally (a few times per day) a game called "12axis's game" is hosted in main room. You're able to play against him because he is an AI.

I think one of the most important issues is the toxity an aw player can be. From insulting you for winning/lossing against him to insulting you because you don't made something they told you. I think aw players should be free to do what they want BUT NOT TO INSULT EACH OTHER.

Dude that's toxicity in literally every game. If you buy the most recent call of duty and play multiplayer I highly doubt you won't meet a toxic teammate within the first 5 hours of playtime.
I'm not trying to normalize toxicity but you're saying that as if that's an atwar problem only when it exists in literally all forms of gaming, especially in games where there's a competitive side, people will always try to use "besting" you as some form of bragging rights in games and use it as a medium for toxicity

Im not saying you're not right, but atWar is a community of not more of 150 players online maxium, maybe we could try.

This is an issue, agreed, but it requires feedback as well. AW doesn't tend to use chat filters (we experimented with them, and we use them from time to time with specific spammers) but generally the forums and chat should be as 'free' as possible. Our mod team isn't 24/7, so we rely on player reports to address toxicity.

The debate over how much 'moderation' is needed to end toxicity has been ongoing since the beginning of time AW. The general rule of thumb is this: Be polite to people you don't know... but you can 'banter' with your friends. Sure, this leaves a lot of 'grey' area, (some say Sean Spicer lives in this grey area) but it's up to you as a player to call out the people who are being insulting, and not join in. Report those who continue to insult, and include a screenshot with your report so that mods can take action right away.

Right now, Dave is satisfied with the forums. Not too toxic, not too oppressive. Mods have debated whether we want to take on room chat, and that may happen yet, but for now it's only global and forum that mods actively moderate.

There is no useful protocoin and SP sink. This game needs to generate income in order to fund development of non-p2w features. Also, playing and winning games should be rewarding, however they become less so after a certain SP count.

I think we need spice something up, Crow is right, we need to understand that no one wants to play the same preset on the same map for 3 years. Atwar take an INSANE amount of grinding to rank up. You need to implement new things into the game, whether its just a new unit, a new game mechanic, or a statistic on units (such as morale). You have to understand that atwar is seasonally played, summer and Christmas break is when this game gets played BY FAR THE MOST. Do things during these times to get the community involved, don't change the rank shields during the dead of school thinking it will get more players. We need to advertise this game, the game we love, or it dies in a few years. Older players can remember the better days of atwar, we have to update the game, not waste time on stupid things like shields.

Bruh you a 2017 player, you ain't that old.
Yea though eventually we will need more mechanics and incentives to play this game.

i've also played just as much as you, and I'm january 2017 giving me nearly 3 full years, I'm not a retard just cause I propose needed things.

Im from 2012 and i can say besides the game needing new mechanics nothing else you said was factual. By 2017 atwar was already much worse off then ever before. And while winter and christmas is a big season for atwar, so is summer, because kids are out of school. Lastly major updates take time to code, then time to balance, then more time to code the rebalancing, dave did maybe an hour of work on the shields.

No offense though but you say how older players remember the better days but atwar's peak was prior to the html5 switch which was in 2014 - early 2015 and it went downhill since After early 2015 the game went to shit basically because there was absolutely no updates as well, besides some terrible updates no one cared for like when Amok made it so games automatically set rank limits 3 ranks above and below your current rank, So people who were like rank 13+ couldn't play games with anyone with new limitations. Trash updates like that were all we got and even then there wasn't much.

it gets repetitive after a while.

Play other maps nigguh

That aside, my opinion stands in that there's too big a gap between old and new players, and no way to bridge it. That, coupled with the fact that new players are not encouraged to become part of the game's community, with said lack of encouragement coming from the players themselves. Example being that most clans have clan limits. Things in the game lobby aren't much different with most hosts kicking a low rank from a game whenever a better player is hanging around in the lobby (this is from my experience in scenarios since that's what I play so I can't talk about other aspects of the game), even when said low rank picked some tiny, insignificant faction (doesn't help that literally ALL high ranks pick the tiny factions first, this is for real, host Wars of Religion and see how fast Papal States and Italian States and Denmark are picked, have some fucking decency people). This entire problem would be greatly alleviated by the long-awaited new tutorial, and while I do have faith that it's on its way, I'm not certain just how far away this is...

Another issue is that things that could be fixed very easily (example, the neutral events in the scenario editor) are not, things like this may seem minor but they discourage people from wishing to contribute to the game, which brings me to another problem, lack of mapmakers as of late, with Nedris, EJR and Estus being the only ones of note as of late (that I know of, anyway)

Fix the shields, market the game, have someone edit internal/external communications (an anti-cringe editor/grammar; its atrocious reading some of the 'official' stuff we put out lol)

imo those are underlying issues causing other issues. Marketing will help bring more players. I think dave has done nice job cleaning things up around here. Since ive started playing again, ive actually enjoyed the community for the first time since 2013. So serious props there
