It seems that america has been passively expanding while players in europe are battling and expanding at the same time. Since you have to expand and protect your cap, america gets a free pass on the early game.

Beating an America is easy! Always check the ocean to see if they are sending anything. If yes, then sending a stack of bombers to kill it. If no, buy some stealth or sentry planes and put them around anything they could take. The good thing about stealth attacks is that they are almost always very weak and counterable, just manage your units right and you can nullify his rush. America has the disadvantage of being so far away that any army it sends will "lag" behind whatever Europe or Asia is capable of defending. I recommend if you are Europe to go down through Africa and up South America to attack America, because the same principle applies to places attacking America.

What Sid said, and i'd also add that in a 50 turn game, it's a challenge to defeat a 'camped' America head on. Unless they are exceptionally unskilled, you won't win by sending a stack of troops at them. In 75+ turn games, do what Sid said. In 50 turn or less, let them come to you (they have high expense wasting resources while they cross oceans, and since they aren't collecting SP while you duke it out in EU/Asia, you will win on SP).

Does this apply to East Asia too?

I'd say even more so, since Pacific is even harder and more expensive to cross... just make sure you have some defenses built up in Korea... if they take Tokyo with stealth, try and kill their offensive troops on the counter attack. A skilled player will attack all your country caps at once (North and East Chinas, Koreas, etc) but it's not a problem... just have a sizeable defensive presence (50-100 inf in Koreas) and you'll be fine. They may take a few caps, but not everything, which is what you want to prevent. You will then outproduce them on the counter attack.
